Week of 11/17/08
It was nice to talk with so many parents and students at conferences! We have quite a full week coming up before our short Thanksgiving week...
-
6th Grade: The majority of the week will be spent with Nothing but the Truth. Please make sure you have Post-It Notes by Monday, and remember to use them while reading! We will be doing various activities in class to discuss and analyze the character and plot development. We will also start Vocab Lesson 5 at the end of the week.
-
7th Grade: The majority of our week will be spent with The Miracle Worker. Please make sure you have Post-It Notes by Monday, and remember to use them while reading! We will be doing various activities in class to discuss and analyze the character and plot development. We will also be acting some of the scenes in class. We will also be working on Vocabulary Lesson 5 throughout the week.
-
8th Grade: We will be working on revising our persuasive writing at the beginning of the week. We will discuss new revising techniques to help make sure that all paragraphs and sentences directly relate to the thesis. Typed final drafts are due Thursday. This week we are starting our first novel, Across Five Aprils (and you will need a pack of Post-It Notes by Thursday).

Make it a great week!

Week of 11/10/08
First of all, congratulations to all of the students who participated in the forensics meet this weekend! I wish I could have been able to see everyone's presentation. The presentations I was able to see were excellent, which I am sure is true of those I didn't see as well! Nice job, junior high!
-
6th Grade: Monday we will finish up revising our narratives. The final typed draft is due Tuesday. We will start working on Vocabulary Lesson 4 this week, and we will start reading our first novel of the year: Nothing but the Truth. I will pass out books on Tuesday!
-
7th Grade: Monday and Tuesday we will finish up our work on compound sentences. (I am really impressed by the progress we made this week with commas! Nice job!) We will have a quiz on Tuesday, covering the compound sentence work. We are also going to start reading our first novel of the year: The Miracle Worker. I will pass out books on Tuesday!
-
8th Grade: This week we will be working with persuasive writing. We will read some examples of persuasive writing and then start drafting our own persuasive essays. One topic that we will focus on specifically is the arguments used in these types of essays and the effectiveness of those arguments. The final draft will not be due until next week. We will also begin reading our first novel next week.
