Fox 6 Meteorologist Justin Zollitsch
did a weather presentation for "W" week!
(and yes, he is my brother...don't we look so much alike?)

Fox 6 Meteorologist and St. Mary's K4 Meteorologist are all smiles for the camera!

We heard Oh, Say Can You Say, What is the Weather Today?
and learned some cool big words for weather (like cumulonimbus clouds and anemometer!)

Fun Fact: Justin met Meteorologist Vince Condella when he was in grade school
and wanted to become one ever since...now he continuing the tradition by meeting with students all over Wisconsin
He usually meets with grades 2nd and up, but we get the special privledges at St. Mary's!

We learned about lightning and safety precautions during a storm

We saw a "classroom" tornado and talked about our tornado drills in school
We really impressed him, because we knew what to do already (we practiced one about a week ago)!

To see a funny video of what NOT to do during a tornado with

Junior Kindergarten Curriculum
In Junior Kindergarten, we use thematic units to help students learn. This means that academics such as Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies are incorporated into all activities that we do. They will not be taught in isolation unless we are working on something very specific that deems it neccessary to do so. Throughout the year we will revist all Exit Expectations as research shows students at this age need to learn things through repetition. Each week I will share what general things we will be working on in class in this section. If you have any questions please let me know. Also, if you click on the flashcard link at the top, you will find all the letter movements that we will be learning as we go through the year.
Dr. Pickart, aka, Mrs. Winkler and Sarah and Sofia presented the letter "Ww"!

May Themes: Spring, Insects
Phonemic Awarenss: Xx, Yy; high frequency word: Review from the year
Language Arts, Science, Social Studies: Introduce letters Xx and Yy, recognize it's sounds, proper formation of the upper and lowercase letters, taking turns, helping, first name and last name recognition, weather conditions, changing seasons, insects and understanding why they are apart of the life cycle, metamorphasis.
