Week of May 14th
Reminders:
On Tuesday, May 15th ALL library books are due- no renewals.
Don't forget the sunscreen tomorrow!
Also, if your son or daughter's gym uniform is at home please make sure it comes to school tomorrow. This is what they will change into after church.
At the end of field day there will be a bake sale to help the eighth graders purchase a statue of Mary for their class gift.
Reading- We will read Now & Ben- compare/contrast, visualize, vocabulary strategies: dictionary, reading longer words with long o and e, final stable syllable -le
Grammar- What is a preposition?
Writer's Workshop- Personal Narrative about First Communion
Social Studies- Unit 5 "Our Government"- mayor, governor, election, solving community problems
Science- Mrs. Lauer will teach science. Please check her classpage for more information. Parents should check assignment notebooks each night for any science homework and the date that assignment is due.
Math- Chapter 21- "Adding Three-Digit Numbers"- mental math: add hundreds, regroup ones, regroup tens, add money, problem solving: guess and check
Students will be expected to master their addition and subtraction facts in second grade. Our goal is 100 problems in 7 minutes or less.
Addition and subtraction fact test requirements for the fourth quarter are:
70%-100% earns an S
50%-70% earns a P
Below 50% is an N
Religion- We will talk about the rosary
Art- We will continue to work on our kites
Spelling- Spelling words will be introduced with a pretest on Monday and the final test will be on Friday . Students will be tested in all 20 words. In second grade, students will have a written assignment every week. They will be expected to alphabetize the first 15 words and use the 5 challenge words to make 5 different sentences. The assignment will be given every Monday and it will be due every Wednesday. Spelling words are in the "file" section of my classpage.
